Professional Consultation
Linda Williams
I am the Program Coordinator for Learning Strategies Development, and also provide consultation, more in-depth counselling, and group workshops to students. Since completing my BA and Master's degrees in Psychology at Queen's, I have worked in a variety of education, mental health, and research positions. Teaching at the post-secondary level for several years and counselling students with learning challenges due to disability, illness, injury or personal style has enabled me to better understand the demands some Queen's students face.
My particular areas of interest include time management and organizational skills, problem solving, helping students increase their awareness of their own learning methods, and working with students with learning differences.
I get great pleasure in helping students of all backgrounds and abilities to be the best they can be, and encourage them to seek balance in other areas of their life. Drop in and I’d be happy to meet you!

Peer Mentoring
Liz Racine
I am the Coordinator of the Peer Mentoring Program and also provide one-to-one consultations and workshops for undergrad and grad students. I have a BA in Psych and English from Queen’s, and a Master’s in Social Work from Carleton. I have training in Solution Focussed Therapy and Crisis Intervention. I am particularly interested in how procrastination, motivation, time and stress management influence each other. These are the most commonly recurring themes brought to mentoring by university students.
My goal is to encourage students to find balance in their lives – pursuing realistic goals and engaging in activities that inspire and refresh them. I am privileged to work with a group of caring and committed Queen’s students who are interested in the reciprocal learning experience that mentoring offers and continually inspire me with their dedication.

Professional Consultation
Barbara Fretz
Welcome to our website! In my capacity as a learning strategies development counsellor, I provide one-to-one consultations and workshops for both undergrad and grad students. I have a Master’s degree in adult educational administration and a Master’s degree in counselling psychology, so I draw on both these fields of knowledge and experience in my work with students. My interest areas include memory, cross-cultural communication, and perfectionism and its impacts on writing.
It’s been a busy year at Learning Strategies Development. This year we developed and uploaded new online modules: reading, exam prep, time management, and memory strategies, complete with hands-on tools. We are also working on learning modules specifically for graduate students. So, throughout the year revisit our site to see what new additions have been made. Hope to meet some of you in the future.
